Three hurdles and three chases make up Ludlow’s National Hunt card on Thursday. It’s a 2.20pm start over the sticks, but you have to wait until 4.20pm for Andrew’s best bet on the card.
4.20 Ludlow – Stoner’s Choice (1pt e/w – 10/1 bet365)
Stoner’s Choice has a good record in the spring, recording form figures in the March to May period of 2114110 (4-7) for a profit of £17.63 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£41.06 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). The fourth place came in Class 1 company and is safe to ignore (he’s 0-11 above Class 3 level), as is the ‘duck egg’ which came at last season’s Punchestown festival. The Fergal O’Brien-trained 11-year-old will be suited by the drying ground and lines up here with the best last time out speed figure (according to Proform) despite only finishing seventh to Hot Fuss at Windsor last time out. That run came in a Class 2 handicap hurdle over an inadequate 2m trip and his record in today’s Class 4 grade, regardless of time of year, stands at 212111 (4-6), with the first defeat by a neck when 8-1 for a bumper on his racecourse debut.
Newcastle Racing Tips (Thursday 19 March 2026)
Seven races make up Newcastle’s all-weather fixture on Thursday, with a 5.25pm start. Andrew’s sole pick on the card runs in the 8.00pm contest.
8.00 Newcastle – Spirit Of Bowland (1pt win – 7/1 bet365)
Like Stoner’s Choice, Spirit Of Bowland can usually be relied upon to run his race in the spring, recording form figures on the all-weather in the March to May period of 41118143 (4-8) for a profit of £22.70 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£24.28 at Betfair SP). The seven-year-old was a shade disappointing at Southwell last time, finishing third when 13-8 favourite for a 1m classified contest, but the first-time blinkers could help and his stable’s last two runners have won (13-2 and 9-2).
