There have been a number of substantial market moves ahead of Wednesday’s racing. Five in particular catch the eye, all having dropped to below one-third of their odds among opening betting markets.
We preview that quintet, analysing the potential reasons for their market support, as all five could have a bearing on results later on today at Listowel, Kempton and Goodwood.
Justice Hall — 8/1 from 40/1 @ Listowel, 17:22
The unraced Justice Hall contests the concluding bumper at Listowel on Kerry National day. He has run in three point-to-points without success, his closest effort coming when fifth at Ballyknock in April.
The son of Maxios may well have been impressing at home though, with his early odds of 40/1 slashed to a best price of 8/1. Both trainer John Queally and young amateur jockey Jack Gleeson have good strike rates at Listowel though, each scoring at better than 23% at the venue, with Queally sending out a winner there on Sunday. With the big name yards of Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott absent, he could prove a very interesting horse to watch after such a betting plunge.

Perfect Love — 20/1 from 66/1 @ Kempton, 16:55
Perfect Love is yet to show much on the racecourse, finishing eighth of nine at Wolverhampton, then last of ten at Yarmouth. However, that second run was actually an improvement which saw her finish within ten lengths of the winner despite stumbling badly in-running, and also being hampered by a rival.
She steps up to 1m here for Mick Appleby and Alistair Rawlinson, and punters may well believe she is an each-way alternative to numerous unraced individuals above her in the market. The step up in trip could be a factor which brings about improvement.

San Juanito — 10/1 from 33/1 @ Kempton, 19:00
The four-year-old San Juanito is badly out of form, but lines up here off a mark of 65 having previously been rated 87 at his best. When trained by the Crisford yard, he won twice at Wolverhampton in 2025.
He has dropped 17lb since joining Mike Murphy‘s yard, but two factors could be in play here for his drop from 33/1 to 10/1. Firstly, he drops back to 7f, over which he has only run twice, but with respectable form figures of 53. The second is that Murphy and jockey Callum Shepherd have combined for a 50% record of runners in the frame at Kempton, with one winner and two placed horses from six attempts.

Jimmy Speaking — 7/2 from 12/1 @ Goodwood, 14:40
Prolific racer Jimmy Speaking is back in action just seven days after a very close call at Yarmouth. He was beaten a neck into second, but lines up here off the same mark of 83; he will go up 1lb in the near future.
The five-year-old has generally been consistent all season, winning twice earlier in the campaign. The second of those wins was achieved off a rating just 1lb below his current mark. As such, early odds of 12/1 were deemed too generous even though he steps back up in class here. His 7/2 price now places him as the second favourite for 2.40pm at Goodwood.

Dontspoilasale — 9/2 from 14/1 @ Kempton, 18:30
Rated as high as 91 when trained in Ireland, Dontspoilasale has plummeted to a career low rating of 65. Although his recent form justifies the handicappers’ decision, punters have sought reasons for optimism ahead of the 6.30pm at Kempton.
He drops to 6f in this race for Jim and Suzi Best despite doing a lot of good work late on at Lingfield last time over 7f. One issue has been his slow starts, but if those have been ironed out, he has not been finishing too far behind for most of the summer. Lots of his success in Ireland came on the all-weather at Dundalk, so a revival on Kempton’s Polytrack is plausible.
