There have been several notable moves in the early markets for Thursday’s racing. Four horses have shortened substantially ahead of meetings at Newmarket, Southwell and Listowel.

Goblet Of Fire — 10/1 to 4/1 @ Newmarket, 3.35pm
Goblet Of Fire returns to the Rowley Mile for the Listed Jockey Club Rose Bowl Stakes over 2m. The six-year-old is trained by Nicky Henderson and Saffie Osborne, who rode him at Newmarket in July, takes the ride again.
He won a 1m 7f handicap at Newmarket in May and was beaten only a short head over 1m 7f there in August. Those two recent course efforts put the return to Newmarket and the step back up to 2m as intriguing factors for a horse now priced at a best of 4/1 from early showings of 10/1.

Champion Crown — 28/1 to 11/1 @ Southwell, 6.30pm
Champion Crown makes his second start in the 7f novice stakes on Southwell’s Tapeta. James Tate’s two-year-old was fifth on debut at Redcar in June, having been slowly away and outpaced through the race.
The switch from turf to Tapeta is the obvious new variable in this race, while Lewis Edmunds takes the ride. It is a small body of racecourse evidence, but the market has moved from the 28/1 quote supplied for the early show to 11/1, which suggests improvement is likely either from his homework, the switch to the all-weather, or a lack of depth in the race.

Guernsey Angel — 11/1 to 13/2 @ Southwell, 7.30pm
Guernsey Angel is drawn in stall one for the 6f handicap at Southwell. The David Evans-trained three-year-old returns to Tapeta with Pat Cosgrave back in the saddle.
She won at Southwell over 5f as a two-year-old in December and also finished a close second at Leicester in July. Her latest run was a seventh at Salisbury on soft ground, so the return to the all-weather is a clear change of surface for this evening’s race which could prove a positive for her chances. The early 11/1 quote has contracted to 13/2.

Kai Lung — 12/1 to 7/1 @ Listowel, 3.07pm
Kai Lung lines up for Willie Mullins and Danny Mullins in the Listed Lartigue Hurdle at Listowel. The four-year-old won a Naas maiden hurdle in January and has since raced in stronger company at Cheltenham, Fairyhouse, Ballinrobe, Galway and the Curragh.
His latest appearance came in a premier handicap at the Curragh, where he finished tenth but was only five lengths behind the winner. He returns to hurdles on ground described as good, good to yielding in places, with the race staged over 2m. The market move from 12/1 to 7/1 accompanies that switch back to the discipline in which he won at Naas. The Willie and Danny Mullins pairing may well have been cottoned onto as well after their Kerry National success on Wednesday.
