Precise heads 19 1000 Guineas runners declared for fillies' Classic

Precise is the protagonist among 19 fillies declared for the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday. The fillies’ first Classic takes place one day after the 2000 Guineas on the Rowley Mile.

Precise enjoyed a tremendous juvenile season in 2025. After finishing second on debut, she won all four of her remaining races. They included two Group 1s, the second of which was the Fillies’ Mile over the 1000 Guineas course and distance.

Aidan O’Brien is without a win in the 1000 Guineas since 2021. He attempts to end that five-year losing streak with both Precise and True Love. The latter is also a Group 1 winner. She has also had a run this season, stepping up successfully to 7f in the Group 3 Priory Belle Stakes at Leopardstown.

Godolphin’s royal blue colours have dominated both Guineas races in recent seasons. Desert Flower won for Charlie Appleby in this race 12 months ago. Abashiri is his sole representative in 2026. Godolphin are doubly represented though, with My Highness declared to run for France by trainer Andre Fabre.

Karl Burke also has two chances. He trains the leading British hope in Venetian Sun. She won her first four races, then finished third to Precise at Group 1 level at the Curragh. She returns fresh after almost eight months off, while Evolutionist also runs for the yard. She won the Prix de la Grotte on return and was also third to Preicse last season.

The Prettiest Star and Inis Mor are also British-trained hopefuls among a big field. Saffie Osborne has also earned a significant Classic mount, as she will ride Touleen for Shadwell Estate and Owen Burrows.
