The Denford Stud owned Consent is likely to begin life as a broodmare next season but not before attempting to land back-to-back renewals of the Prix de Royallieu.
The Lope De Vega filly was a rare first time out two-year old winner for Sir Mark Prescott in 2024. She returned in strong form last season, finishing second twice in group company. She reversed the form with Santorini Star in Group 1 company next time out, revelling in the underfoot conditions.
Consent hasn’t quite matched that form this season. However she took a step forward when third in the Park Hill Stakes last time out in first time headgear.
Denford Stud’s Richard Evans told At The Races: “We know the softer the better for her and I think she will probably go for the same race as last year. It looks the obvious end-of-season target. Hopefully if she can get on some softer ground she will go close.
“It was such a good performance in the race last season. Based on that we were expecting big things this year and at that stage even thinking of the Arc.
“She didn’t start the season great. Then we had the guessing game over whether she had trained on or was she not quite herself for one reason or another. But she’s back to competing again now which is good.”
Soft ground key for Consent
Given the dry summer, options have been tough for Consent. There was promise to be taken out of her effort at Goodwood given the unsuitable quick going. Now she’s seemingly rediscovered her form, like last year, now is the time she may be returning to the boil.
Evans continued: “Her first race this year was a disappointment and we couldn’t find any reason why. So it was nice when she went to Goodwood she was at least racing again, albeit that was on ground that didn’t suit her. But it looked like she was at least competing which was nice.
“We thought she might win or be placed at Doncaster. But more than anything we wanted to see her competing again. I think she did and put up a nice performance to be there or thereabouts.
“I think it will be her final season and I did suggest to the boss to keep her in training again next season. Nothing is set in stone, but I think she will be back as a broodmare.”
