Coaxed gave John and Thady Gosden Group 3 success in the Darley Prix des Réservoirs at Chantilly on Monday, and Baaeed a second Group winner from his first crop of runners. Cristian Demuro, a late replacement for Christophe Soumillon, steered Cheveley Park Stud’s filly to a three-quarters-of-a-length victory over Malikat Al Remal in the one-mile contest.
The daughter of Baaeed now has two wins from three starts. She made all on her debut in a seven-furlong fillies’ novice at Kempton in August, holding Roger Varian’s Miss Miniver by a neck at 9/2, before being thrown straight into Group 3 company in the Prestige Fillies’ Stakes at Goodwood. There, she was beaten a length-and-three-quarters into third behind Light Of Dawn at 8/1 after hanging in the closing stages.
This was a clear step forward from that Goodwood effort, with the experience likely standing her in good stead. Stepping up to a mile for the first time, Coaxed relished the soft ground at Chantilly to hold off Malikat Al Remal, with Rymskhaya a further three-quarters-of-a-length back in third.
Coaxed has the pedigree to go further
Coaxed is a family affair for her connections. Her dam, Persuasive, won the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot in 2017 for John Gosden and Cheveley Park Stud. The filly is also a half-sister to the yard’s Listed winner Cajole.
Her sire was one of the best milers of the modern era, winning ten of his 11 starts, including the Sussex Stakes, the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and the Juddmonte International, and this success will do his fledgling stud career no harm at all. With a mile already well within her compass and the promise of more improvement to come, the Gosdens can now look forward to stepping their filly up in class next season.
