Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire Meeting begins on Thursday, bringing three days of autumn Flat racing to the Rowley Mile. The opening card includes the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes and the Listed Jockey Club Rose Bowl Stakes, while Friday and Saturday will build towards the meeting’s biggest races.
At Listowel, Ballygunner Castle gave Willie Mullins and his nephew Danny a second successive win in the Guinness Kerry National on Wednesday. The seven-year-old took the Grade 3 handicap chase from Ol Man Dingle, with Downmexicoway third.
Elsewhere, the British Flat jockeys’ championship remains a major story as Billy Loughnane and Oisin Murphy continue their battle for the title. Loughnane is pursuing a first championship, while Murphy is bidding to add another title to his record, and both enjoyed a fine Wednesday, securing hat-tricks at different meetings.
Cambridgeshire Meeting begins at Newmarket
The Cambridgeshire Meeting runs from Thursday through Saturday at Newmarket. Thursday’s programme is headed by the Tattersalls Stakes, a Group 3 contest for two-year-old colts and geldings, and the Jockey Club Rose Bowl Stakes.
The meeting gathers pace on Friday with the Rockfel Stakes and Joel Stakes, before Saturday’s card features the Cambridgeshire Heritage Handicap, Royal Lodge Stakes, Cheveley Park Stakes and Middle Park Stakes. You can also read GG’s day-one Newmarket preview.
Ballygunner Castle lands Kerry National
Ballygunner Castle produced the leading result at Listowel on Wednesday, winning the Guinness Kerry National for Willie Mullins and Danny Mullins. The seven-year-old moved into the lead before the second-last fence and stayed on to beat Ol Man Dingle, with Downmexicoway completing the first three.

Listowel continues after its feature race
Listowel’s Harvest Festival continues on Thursday, when the Listed Lartigue Hurdle is the feature on the card. The meeting provides the Irish racing strand alongside Newmarket’s opening day.
Loughnane and Murphy title race remains in focus
The battle for the British Flat jockeys’ championship has given this closing stretch of the flat season an exciting twist. Oisin Murphy appeared to have closed the gap with five winners across the week up to Wednesday, but Billy Loughnane hit back with three winners of his own during the evening meeting at Kempton.
The pair have full schedules on Thursday, with Murphy heading to Newmarket for seven rides. Loughnane again waits for the evening, with eight rides awaiting him at Southwell. The Professional Jockeys Association championship table carries the current standings.
