Willie Mullins kicked off the Kerry National meeting in style on Sunday. Listowel’s four-day festival is the biggest at the track throughout the year and Irish training’s powerhouse yard earned a treble courtesy of the unbeaten Run Ted Run. Attentions turn fully to the flat at the Irish venue on Monday, with an eight-race card headlined by the John McGuire Handicap at 4.05pm
Pellitory lands Ayr Gold Cup for Danny Tudhope
The big race of the weekend just gone was the Ayr Gold Cup. The 6f handicap went the way of Pellitory for David O’Meara and Danny Tudhope. The BBC reported on the day’s events, with the Saturday card heavily delayed due to adverse weather conditions. After two inspections, a revised card was held, with the feature seeing 12/1 shot Pellitory deny Tuco Salamanca. It was a second win in the race for Tudhope.
Jean-Claude Rouget gets one last chance in Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe
In wider racing news, Jean-Claude Rouget has earned one more chance at the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. The 73-year-old will retire from the training ranks this autumn, with his operation facing being wound up this Friday. However, as reported by the Racing Post, a judicial delay has ensured Rouget can continue training until the Arc is run on Sunday 4 October. He will likely send rank outsider Arrow Eagle, a half-brother to 2023 Arc hero Ace Impact who was sixth in the race 12 months ago.
