The Epsom Oaks betting received two significant moves on Wednesday. It involved two John & Thady Gosden-trained fillies as I’m The One was ruled out by her yard, while Legacy Link gamely won the Musidora Stakes.
More of York’s Dante meeting results are rounded up in today’s racing news.
Epsom Oaks: I’m The One out but replaced by Legacy Link
John Gosden ruled out Oaks second favourite I’m The One from Epsom. The daughter of Sea The Stars finished second to current market leader Amelia Earhart in the Listed Cheshire Oaks last week. However, her handler said she had not come out of the race as healthy as hoped. As such, I’m The One will not travel to Epsom. She had previously been an impressive six-length winner on debut, but may now head to Royal Ascot. (Racing TV)
There was good news for the Gosdens on Wednesday, however. I’m The One’s position in the Oaks betting was filled by a stablemate in Legacy Link. Even against the might of Ballydoyle, she may be the best-bred filly in the line-up. A daughter of Dubawi out of Frankel’s full sister Chiasma, she was forced to work hard for victory at York on Wednesday. Legacy Link ultimately outbattled Felicitas to win by three-quarters-of-a-length. She is a best-priced 5/1 at Epsom. (Racing Post)
Another Oaks hopeful has been spoken of in positive terms by her trainer. Venetian Lace finished third in the 1000 Guineas for Charlie Johnston at the start of May. That followed her second-placed effort in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile as a juvenile too. By 2018 Derby winner Masar, Venetian Lace has only won one of her seven career starts. However, those placed efforts in top-class company represent “some of the strongest form in the book,” according to Johnston. (Racing Post)
York Dante meeting results: Group 2 for Elmonjed as Klassleader dethrones Constitution Hill
William Haggas enjoyed a double on the Knavesmire on Wednesday. It was completed in Group 2 company by Elmonjed, who broke clear to win the Minster Stakes over 6f. The five-year-old’s last three wins have now come at the track. In a strong field, he held off Group 1 winner Kind Of Blue for victory. Elmonjed has no entries at Royal Ascot, but his trainer said “he needs to go for a Group 1 now.” (Sky Sports)
Constitution Hill is no longer favourite for the Ebor at York. The nine-year-old has not been seen since winning his second flat start at Kempton. On Wednesday, a performance of such promise by Klassleader dethroned him in that market. Haggas’ charge is close to 17 hands in height and produced a power-packed finish to win the Jorvik Handicap impressively on Wednesday. He is a best-priced 10/1 for one of the biggest flat handicaps of the season. (Sporting Life)
