A full field of 28 Stewards’ Cup runners will take to the start of the feature Glorious Goodwood handicap, as the draw was made earlier this afternoon.
Just two horses have won the race from single figure stalls in the last ten years, both going off favourite. High numbers have largely dominated the race, which bodes well for favourite Far Above Dream who claimed stall 23. That pitch birthed the winner in 2021, and he looks to take his track record to 4-4.
Last year’s winner Two Tribes took stall 13 as he bids to emulate last year’s success. The son of Rajasinghe was one of three runners for connections’ to finish in the first five. He’s 7lbs higher this time around, but arrives on the back of a career best RPR from the International Handicap.
Dubai Bling was allotted a low draw quite early on by Hugo Palmer, who arrives in good form. The Dark Angel gelding made his British seasonal debut with a head second at Chester. He caught the eye when short of room in the Wokingham, before getting up late back at Ascot.
Stall 15 has produced two of the last nine winners of the race and Tuco Salamanca looks primed for this. His shrewd owners had a winner with French Affair here on Wednesday, followed by a close fourth with Oliver Show. He ran very well here last May over seven furlongs, but has been kept to six since. He was a comfortable winner at Newcastle last time out, taking his record to seven from 18. Connections have booked the excellent Dylan Browne McMonagle, and this is his only ride on the card.
Previous winner Get It aims to reclaim title
The 2024 winner Get It made all from stall 28 and has been drawn one down in 27 to reclaim his crown. He was also in 27 last season, but failed to handle the softer going. He hasn’t been seen since last September, but he can go well fresh and gets his ground.
Run Boy Run was fourth in this last season and is well drawn in stall 24 to go three better. Connections will have targeted this contest and despite his higher mark, is bound to go well.
Connections also declared Candy, who was last of 23 here on Tuesday. Drawn in stall one, a huge leap of faith is required to chance him.
You’d have to go back several years to find a horse drawn in stall eight to fill the frame. That doesn’t bode well for Dark Thirty, who’s 5lbs well in. He’s been in solid form for the Quinn’s this season, arriving on the back of a second at the Curragh.
The winner of that race, Sonndad, is better drawn in stall 21 in what looks set to be a blockbuster of a Stewards’ Cup.
