2.20pm Newmarket – CopyBet Support Safer Gambling Fillies’ Handicap
A big field of 18 fillies goes to post for this Class 4 handicap over 1m on Soft ground, worth £6,543 to the winner. Only 14lb separates the top-rated runners (81) from the bottom-rated Tronido (67).
- C&D winners: Silent City (Roger Varian, Jack Mitchell) tops the weights on 10st 1lb off 81. Her C&D form is a win and a second, both in fillies’ handicaps last autumn. Bearin Up (Tim Easterby) won over C&D in May and was beaten favourite last time.
- Hot yard and jockey: Hamdas Joy won at Brighton last time and carries both Hot Trainer and Hot Jockey flags. Tom Clover is 3 from 12 (25%) in the last 14 days, and Jack Callan is 7 from 31 (23%).
- In-form riders: Tom Marquand rides Brighton Beach (William Haggas) and is 13 from 60 (22%). She has raced only five times and drops back to 1m. Rowan Scott is 4 from 19 (21%) and rides Lady Vega, who won last time and makes her handicap debut.
- Long absences: Tahalel (Richard Hannon), joint top-rated on 81, returns after 157 days. Gesayed (K R Burke) is back after 124 days.
- Beaten favourites: Thursday Girl, Nanoscience and Bearin Up were all beaten favourite last time. Mystic Moment runs seven days after her last start and wears first-time headgear.

Verdict
Topweight SILENT CITY looks particularly interesting returned to this C&D and is first choice ahead of lightly raced 3yo Poets Praise, who may well have more to offer back on turf. Thursday Girl, Hamda’s Joy and Kamaway are solid-looking contenders, while several others also have possibilities in a competitive event.[Steve Boow]

Mystic Moment4.12pm Carlisle – Panoramic Hurdle
The day’s most valuable race: an eight-runner Listed hurdle over 2m1f 33y on Good To Firm ground, worth £28,475 to the winner. Six of the eight have been off for at least 174 days.
- Ratings: Wilful (Jonjo & A J O’Neill), last season’s County Hurdle winner, is top-rated on 153. Golden Ace (Jeremy Scott), the only mare, is rated 150 and Rubaud 145.

- Skelton runner: Mirabad won a Grade 1 novice chase at Aintree in April at 50-1 and has had a wind operation. Dan Skelton is 23 from 86 (27%) in the last 14 days, and Harry Skelton is 17 from 52 (33%). Both carry top course flags.

25/1 Dedicated Hero, 11/4 Rubaud, 7/2 Wilful, 8/1 Burdett Road, 66/1 Hamlets Night, 25/1 Inner Success, 7/1 Mirabad, 7/4 Golden Ace
Verdict
Star mare Golden Ace has the best chance at the weights but she failed to fire last November following a break and there’s a worry the same will happen today. Conversely, RUBAUD has a tremendous reappearance record and this prolific winner is taken to make another successful return to action. Wilful, Burdett Road and Mirabad are the others with form claims and Burdett Road, who is fit from the Flat, is second choice.[Ben Hutton]

Verdict
An extra 8lb may not prevent WOODSTREAM LAD from supplementing a surprise Killarney win. He may be tested by Kings Jet, who was still in with a good chance when falling at Listowel. The experienced Charlie Luciano and chasing newcomer Lambay Island are also likely contenders. [Alan Sweetman]

9/4 Escapeandevade, 11/2 Excelero, 3/1 Jaipaletemps, 5/1 Joker De Mai, 12/1 Minella Missile, 4/1 Doctors Hill
Verdict
The generally reliable Escapeandevade is respected back in calmer waters on his return but slight preference is for JAIPALETEMPS, who won five times during a highly progressive campaign last season. This 7yo still looks on a workable mark and was successful over C&D on his reappearance last term. Joker De Mai is next on the list, although Doctors Hill is well handicapped on his best hurdling form and needs watching in the market on this switch to fences. [David Moon]
