2025 Epsom Derby Runners: 19 Horses Declared For Saturday Classic

A bumper field of 19 three-year-old colts will line up at Epsom Downs at 4:00pm on Saturday 7th June, 2025 for the Betfred Derby. We take a look at all the runners for the Group 1 Classic that will be run over 1m 4f 6y and will attract the premier middle distance performers from this generation.

Aidan O’Brien is the most successful trainer in the history of the race and he will saddle three contenders in the 2025 Derby and the first of those is the current market leader Delacroix, who has been in scintillating form this season. A winner of the Ballysax Stakes back in March, the Dubawi colt then went and stormed to victory in the Derby Trial at Leopardstown and that saw him propel to the head of the betting.

The Lion In Winter is another notable shot fired by O’Brien’s Ballydoyle operation, but this star juvenile has not had an ideal three-year-old campaign. Having missed the 2000 Guineas, he was then sent off a warm order for the Dante Stakes at York, but he ran no sort of race in that contest and was soundly beaten by Pride Of Arras for Ralph Beckett. That pair are set to do battle again here and the winner at York that day showed a real quality and has to be respected, while The Lion In Winter is looking bounce back from that flop on the Knavesmire.

Charlie Appleby has saddled the winner of the Derby on two occasions, but the Godolphin handler has a strong contender aiming to land him the hat-trick and he’s will saddle Ruling Court in this year’s race. A stunning half-a-length winner over Field Of Gold in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket last month, the Justify colt is looking to join an illustrious group of colts that have done the Guineas/Derby double and he will be another top notch performer taking his chance.

The abovementioned Dante Stakes looked to be a very smart renewal and John & Thady Gosden’s Damysus chased home Pride Of Arras and he could be looking to turn that form around here, while the Gosden team will also unleash Nightwalker, who was fifth that day at York.

There were two horses supplemented on Monday and the pair are set to make the trip over from France with Francis Graffard’s unbeaten Midak and Henri-Francois Devin’s Night Ground set to head to Epsom and look to become the first French-trained horse since Pour Moi in 2011 to win the Derby.
