The opening chase on the Wednesday is the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase, or for the purists, The Broadway Novices’ Chase. Inaugurated in 1921, 20 fences are to be jumped for these staying novice chasers across a distance of three miles and one furlong.
Several winners of the contest have gone on to win the coveted Cheltenham Gold Cup, the latest being Lord Windemere in 2013 who took the prestigious event a year later. Familiar household names such as Arkle, Florida Pearl and Denman have won the race, and an unusually large field of 16 bid to emulate those greats.

Romeo Coolio’s Cheltenham participation was far from guaranteed with the recent removal of the 2m4f novice chase forcing connections to sway either side, but with the ground set to be favourable they’ve rolled the dice in the three miler. Second in both the 2024 Champion Bumper and the 2025 Supreme, the yard will be hoping this step up in trip can break his festival duck. He’s a flawless four from four over fences this season including two Grade 1’s, and he could prove tough to beat if coping with the distance.
Final Demand is equipped with a first time tongue-tie after a lacklustre display in the Grade 1 Ladbrokes Novices’ Chase at the Dublin Racing Festival. There was seemingly no excuse for that which would be a concern for backers, but it’s hard to escape how impressive he was in his two chase starts prior to that. Kaid d’Authie beat Final Demand and Western Fold that day, jumping impressively well and staying on dourly toward the end. He also beat Wingmen a similar margin, so he was entitled to put in a display like that.
Koktail Divin skips the Jack Richards Novice Handicap despite a workable mark of 150 after a bloodless performance in a Beginners Chase at Leopardstown. He’ll have to find another gear to reverse the form with Romeo Coolio, and he didn’t look the strongest of stayers when second to Oscar’s Brother on his sole try at three miles. The Big Westerner ensures Henry De Bromhead is doubly represented to gain his first win in this contest, looking to go one better than her Albert Bartlett second here last season.
Wendigo is just one of three representing the British here and his challenge looks to be a strong one. He’s progressed with each run over fences this season and showed up well in the Kauto Star despite being unsuited by the track. He suffered interference when mounting his challenge in the Albert Bartlett last season, and this stamina testing trip will play heavily into his strengths.

2026 Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase Tips
Wendigo is the sole winner at the distance of those to the fore of the market and while he might not have the flashiest profiles, he’s bound to be staying on stronger than most and his twenty two length success at Ayr will have strongly boosted his confidence.
He can reverse the Albert Bartlett form with The Big Westerner, who was a convincing winner of the Dawn Run Mares Novice Chase at Limerick last time out.
Romeo Coolio can complete the tricast and bag himself another place at the festival, but this is a big ask to step up to three miles having looked quick enough for two this season.
