2.00 Newmarket – ALBESEEINGYER (2pt win – 10/1 bet365)
ALBESEEINGYER has won six of her 11 starts in handicaps of Class 5 or lower for a profit of £33.25 to a £1 level stake at SP, including four from five in the August/September period. In-form Steph Hollinshead’s mare could only finish seventh of 14 at Chester last time but that was at Class 4 level and the ease in grade will suit, as will the return toa straight 7f. She landed her sole course and distance start by five lengths, her trainer had a winner here yesterday and while softer ground would have been ideal, they usually put plenty of water on here.
2.05 Goodwood – GREAT ACCLAIM (1.5pt win – 6-1 generally)
GREAT ACCLAIM typically runs well at this time of year (May to August) over 7f+ on turf when he’s had a recent outing (within the past three weeks), recording form figures under these conditions of 311611711 (6-9) for a profit of £41.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. He’s two from two since the blinkers were added, scoring over course and distance at Glorious Goodwood before a Racing League win at Chepstow, and looks well drawn in stall 2.
3.35 York – ENEMY (0.5pt e/w – 25-1 generally)
In last year’s Ebor I suggested an each-way bet on the Ian Williams-trained ONEFORTHEGUTTER (runs again today) who finished a solid third 25-1 third but I’m deserting him this year in favour of stablemate ENEMY for the same owners. The eight-year-old has had two cracks at this race previously, finishing 11 lengths behind Trawlerman when 14th of 20 in 2022 and 12 lengths behind Absurde when 16th of 22 a year later. Those runs came off handicap marks of 110 and 109 respectively and he runs off just 97 today. He ran poorly over 1m4f on his first two starts this term but showed more when a 40-1 sixth in the Shergar Cup Stayers and the cut back from 2m to 1m6f will suit. The first-time cheekpieces are also an interesting angle and his trainer’s Flat turf runners in this headgear are 22 from 122 (18% strike-rate) for a profit of £37.22 to a £1 level stake at SP.
4.10 York – NORTHERN TICKER (1pt e/w – 18-1 Paddy Power, 16-1 bet365, William Hill)
NORTHERN TICKER needed his comeback outing when 15th of 18 behind Hucklestone over course and distance in mid-June and built on that when fourth of 14 in the Scottish Stewards’ Cu at Hamilton next time, doing best of those to race on the stands’ side. Michael Dods’ gelding has a hany middle draw (stall 10 of 20) and I had him closer to 8-1 rather than 14-1 to 18-1. Aside from seasonal debuts his record now reads 1134 (2-4) and his prominent style will be an asset in a race featuring mostly hold-up performers. I’m inclined to forgive JORDAN ELECTRICS his poor run over 5f89y here in Wednesday’s opener but after being sweet on his chances for GG’s Weekend Watch I’ve cooled on his chances and will only be having a saver.
