‘It’s desperately difficult to win round the inside at Dundalk at present and Chicago Lightening ended up in the ‘swamp’ when 5-2 favourite for the 1m Irish Stallion Farms EBF Filles Maiden last Friday, despite a favourable draw in stall 9 of 13. She raced enthusiastically in the early stages, tracking the leaders in third place towards the outside.
She looked ideally positioned on turning in but hung towards the inside, despite jockey Shane B Kelly’s attempts to keep her straight. She kept on well to finish just over two lengths behind the winner, leaving the firm impression that she would have gone close had she challenged down the centre of the track. This daughter of Night Of Thunder should improve when encountering slow turf for the first time.’
…She drops back to 6f in a first-time tongue-tie for her turf debut today which might seem slightly surprising, but she was only beaten by a length over this trip at Dundalk on her racecourse debut and could prove hard to pass.
