3.00 Chepstow – BLUE BEACH (2pt win – 11/2 with William Hill)
BLUE BEACH caught the eye in a Grade 2 mares’ race at Newbury on March 25th last year, finishing second and doing clear best of those to come from off the pace. She has failed to score in four subsequent runs but only went down by a head at Market Rasen last time and tends to peak at this time of year. Mel Rowley’s seven-year-old now has form figures in February or March of 1122 (2-4) and looks set to go close at least.
3.27 Down Royal – LONGHOUSE POET (2pt win)
The key to LONGHOUSE POET is a run within the past six weeks – his record under such conditions being 13382311716U1U5P (5-16) for a profit of £9.08 to a £1 level stake at SP. If we ignore his runs in Class 1 company those figures improve to 123111 (4-6). Martin Brassil’s ten-year-old pulled up at Gowran Park last time but that was in a Grade 3 handicap chase and he’s in much calmer waters this afternoon. He laned this race 12 months ago and his stamina is assured, unlike that of the Willie Mullins-trained Classic Getaway.
