Does MCFABULOUS need his first two runs of the season? That might seem an odd question to pose after he bolted up at Chepstow on his reappearance this term but he was entitled to do that as a 4-6 shot, rated 145, who was only conceding 3lb to the 135-rated runner-up.
His record on his first or second start each term stands at 172413 (2-6), including a defeat at odds of 30-100, compared to form figures of 11111 (5-5) on his third or subsequent starts. He raced wide on the better ground when scoring at Kempton last time, so it’s tempting to say he was a shade flattered, but he won with any amount in hand and will be hard to beat here.

BLAME THE GAME went into the tracker after his second place at Ascot in December where he fared best of those to come from off the pace on a track that was strongly favouring prominent racers.

This sharp left-handed track should suit (his sole win came at Plumpton) and trainer Chris Gordon is in good form.
I’ve saved on PENNY MALLOW who hated the right-handed track when fourth at Sandown last time. Her record left-handed in bumpers or over hurdles stands at 17115 (3-5), with the fifth place an eyecatcher as she raced in the ‘swamp’ at Fakenham.
