The market for the 6f British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes at Hamilton on June 16 was dominated by Ninky Nonk (5-4 favourite) and newcomer Qipao (13-8) and they fought out the finish, with Mark Johnston’s second favourite well on top at the line.
However, it was the performance of fourth-placed LUNASA that was especially noteworthy. The Linda Stubbs-trained 33-1 shot attracted some support at much bigger odds and broke on terms to chase the early pace set by the favourite. She was outpaced at the halfway stage but stuck on well to finish just under seven lengths behind the winner. She looks the type to take a major step forward with that experience behind her and looks overpriced here.
