WYCHWOOD WHISPER – 3.05 Gowran Park (1pt each-way, 14/1 888sport, 12/1 generally)
Gowran Park was the usual front-runners benefit at last week’s meeting where WYCHWOOD WHISPER caught the eye in finishing a 14-1 fifth of 16 from off the pace, doing second best of those ridden with restraint.
He also had a difficult draw and, though beaten by eight lengths, it was a cracking effort in the circumstances. He’s not drawn brilliantly again today but there’s a lot of pace on, and it could be set up nicely.
It’s handy that this is the fourth race on the card, as we often see the first two or three winners make all and the jockeys then get it into their heads that they have to be on the front end, leading to a pace collapse in some of the later races.

EDRAAK, best when fresh (after a break of at least six weeks), was beaten by a short head at 12-1 when napped in this column for his latest outing – a race worth £77,000 to the winner on Finals Day at Newcastle.
That effort took his record for current trainer Mick Appleby, after the required break, to 1111412 (5-7). The other defeat was excusable as he met trouble at Windsor. Today’s fast ground suits and he looks rock solid.
