HEIGHTS OF ABRAHAM – 2.05 Hamilton (1pt each-way – 14-1 bet365, 12-1 generally)
The Keith Dalgleish-trained HEIGHTS OF ABRAHAM, gelded since finishing fourth at Musselburgh last June in a short 2022 campaign, finished 20 lengths behind the winner when reappearing in the Queen’s Cup at the same venue. He never advanced from mid-division but that outing would have been needed and he looks very interesting here.
The four-year-old has improved markedly for both previous seasonal debut efforts – finishing a 22-1 fourth of seven at Ayr in July 2020 before improving his RPR (Racing Post Rating) by 12lb when scoring at Musselburgh the following month and winning at the second time of asking last term, receiving a 14lb higher RPR than for his reappearance fourth. His latest win came over 1m2f but he seemed to stay 1m4f when fourth at Haydock subsequently and remains open to improvement over staying trips.

Sandown expert ANDALEEP shouldn’t have a problem with this right-handed track and is worth chancing at a huge price. He was flattered by the pace collapse when scoring at his favourite last summer but is 9lb lower on his first turf outing in Class 6 company and, with a big field of amateur riders, another strongly-run contest could be in the offing. Stall 14 could help if the far-side rail rides ‘dead’ as it did at the last meeting.
