AZURE BLUE challenged away from where the action unfolded when fourth of 13 at York last time and may have been unlucky. She’s incredibly consistent, recording form figures of 3221512414 (3-10), improving to 1121 (3-4) in single-figure line-ups. This race has cut up to just eight runners and it will be disappointing if she doesn’t go close at least.
THE TRON – Southwell 7.00 – 1pt e/w (9/2 Bet365, 5/2 Generally)
Wolverhampton’s Tapeta surface has massively favoured early pace for most of the summer and that was the case when Valentine Blues (‘pressed leader, led 3f out’) caused a 20-1 upset in a 5f handicap on September 3rd. Derek Shaw-trained pair Gustav Graves (‘midfield’) and THE TRON (‘stumbled soon after start, pushed along early, in rear, pushed along over 2f out, ridden and still plenty to do over 1f out, kept on strongly final 110yds, not reach leaders’) did well to fill the next two places under patient tactics. Gustave Graves duly won at Leicester next time and The Tron, whose effort was the most eyecatching, bids to follow suit at Southwell tonight. There’s plenty of pace among his 13 rivals and he should be bang there at the finish.
