2.45 Lingfield – TYGER BAY (1pt win – 6/1 William Hill, 11/2 bet365)
TYGER BAY nearly made an already good day a glorious one on February 24th but the 12-1 shot (from 20-1) found Billyjoh too good in a 6f handicap at Chelmsford. The seven-year-old had caught the eye when last of eight over today’s course and distance on his previous start – trying to make ground on the ‘dead’ rail after blowing the start – and his come-from-behind style will be more effective back at the scene of three of his last four wins.
3.30 Wincanton – RARE CLOUDS (1pt win – 11/2 bet365, William Hill)
I first wrote-up RARE CLOUDS after his eyecatching fourth around the inside at Leicester in December 2021 and tipped him in this column when he won at 28-1 at Southwell next time out (May 2022). We had to wait until January of this year for him to add to that tally – when scoring by six lengths at odds of 15-2 over 2m5.5f on heavy ground at today’s venue – and I want to go in again, despite him pulling up at Ascot last time. The ground was faster than ideal that day and the drop from Class 3 to Class 4 level will suit.
4.55 Carlisle – CONCETTO (1pt win – 11/4 bet365)
CONCETTO, only sixth at Market Rasen on Boxing Day, returned to winning ways at the same venue on February 6th. The Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero-trained seven-year-old tends to peak at this time of year and has form figures in February/March of 1121 (3-4), with the defeat by the well handicapped Latitude, who won off 124 and was subsequently rated as high as 139. He’s clearly happiest on right-handed tracks – his other two wins came at Musselburgh and Huntingdon, and he can follow up.
