LIGNOU – 1.30 Perth (2pts win / 1pt place – 9/1 generally)

LIGNOU has yet to score in five runs for Jennie Candlish but recent signs have been highly encouraging – he raced in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail when a respectable 25-1 fifth of nine on soft going at Leicester on his penultimate start and, last time out, improved for better ground and the step back up to 2m4f to finish a close-up 14-1 third at Southwell despite hanging to his right.

His best efforts over hurdles in Ireland came right-handed in the spring – a five-length 66-1 sixth of 20 in a Fairyhouse handicap hurdle worth 47,000euros to the winner and a Kilbeggan novice hurdle win – and he also scored on the Flat in France in April of 2018. He started life for his current yard on a mark of 132 and runs off just 113 today, suggesting he’s very well handicapped now returning to his optimum conditions – 2m4f, good ground and a right-handed track – for the first time since leaving Ireland.

THOMAS TODD – 2.05 Perth (2pts win – 11/4 generally)

When rested for more than seven weeks since his latest outing, THOMAS TODD has form figures of 411141 (4-6) for a profit of £29.75 to a £1 stake. He bolted up in this race last year and can defy the 268-day layoff.

HAPPY HOLLOW – 3.50 Perth (1pt win – 11/1 Tote, 9/1 generally)

The pace held up in Carlisle’s opener on February 28, with the first three home described by the Racing Post as ‘tracked leaders’, ‘disputed lead, tracked leaders when headed after 2nd’ and ‘disputed lead, led clearly 3 out’. HAPPY HOLLOW, wearing cheekpieces for the first time, fared best of those to come from off the pace in a 12-1 fourth and looks very interesting here. He tends to peak at about this time of year and is 6lb below his last winning mark.

MAX DYNAMO – 4.30 Warwick (1pt each-way – 6/1 generally)

It’s not easy to win from off the pace in chase company at Wincanton but MAX DYNAMO did so twice earlier this year. His hat-trick of come-from-behind Wincanton wins was denied when going down by just half-a-length in third place last time, but he emerged with great credit, as the pair that beat him were up with the pace throughout. He clocked a fast time for that run – better than any of today’s rivals according to Proform – and he has placed in all three previous handicap runs at today’s venue, finishing third of 11, second of 13 and second of nine.
