REVICH – York 3.00 – (1pt each-way – 20-1 bet365, Paddy Power, Betfair)
The draw played its usual important role in the Coral Unibet Handicap at Glorious Goodwood, with David O’Meara’s Orbaan (stall 2 of 18) storming clear from stablemate Blue For You (stall 1) – both advised each-way in this column.
My low-draw combination Trifecta was scuppered by the Richard Spencer-trained 66-1 shot REVICH, who stayed on well to grab third from stall 13 (once adjusted for the non-runners). The six-year-old was anchored at the back by Jason Hart and managed to find daylight in the last couple of furlongs, despite being switched towards the inside rail, flying home to finish just over three lengths behind the winner.
The next three finishers were drawn in single figures, and this was a fine effort given his draw. His record in July/August now reads 1651051102433 (4-13) and his full record on turning track since visored stands at 11424371323 (3-11), with the sole out-of-the-frame effort excusable as he was ridden patiently and challenged wide in a steadily-run contest at Chester.
ALPINISTA – York 3.35 (2pts win – 2-1 generally)
ALPINISTA has won six of her seven starts since finishing a 33-1 second to Love on this race two years ago and is very hard to beat when Luke Morris rides. His record on Sir Mark Prescott’s mare stands at 14111111 (7-8), with the defeat coming over an inadequate 1m trip back in September 2019. She’s going to be hard to beat and the 2-1 looks generous.
