HELIOS ALLEN – (3.20 Chepstow, 2pts win – 5/2)
Having made the running around the inside of the track when winning on Voyburg for Kim Bailey at Exeter on December 3 and on Hermes Bay for his Mum Jane Williams, Chester Williams was unable to get the hat-trick up on his Dad’s HELIOS ALLEN in the third race, switching to patient tactics and staying wider than ideal throughout.
He kept on well to finish just over four lengths behind the winner, jumping out to his left on occasions, and will be much happier back at Chepstow today, the scene of his sole success.

ALMAAN – (4.00 Chelmsford, 2pts win – 7/1)
Henry Spiller has a solid record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other yards but ALMAAN was very weak in the betting for a 7f handicap when making his stable debut at Chelmsford last Thursday, going off at 14-1 despite a good draw in stall 3 of 12.
Slowly away, he was still third last on turning in before making eyecatching late progress down the wide outside under very tender handling. He finished less than four lengths behind the winner – 4-1 stablemate Legende D’Art – and it will be surprising if this former Sir Michael Stoute inmate doesn’t leave that form well behind.

KRAZY PAVING – (6.30 Chelmsford, 1pt each-way – 16/1)
Happy KRAZY PAVING Day everyone! Those of you who are relatively new to this column will not have heard of Krazy Paving Day but is usually occurs in January and it represents the first run of the ew year for Olly Murphy’s veteran.

Last year, he extinguished the new year blues with a courser and distance win at 5-1 on January 22 and in 2020 his first run of the year saw him successful over course and distance at 7-1.
He was only fourth of 13 on his first run after the festive period in 2019 but bounced back to win at 10-1 next time. In 2018, on his debut for his current yard, he was second by a neck and in 2016 he was second by a short head before going one better next time.
