ESPRESSOO – 3.00 Haydock (1pt win – 4/1 bet365, Will Hills)
Several of those trading in single-figure at the time of writing (William Hills prices) look up against it in this 7f handicap…
3-1 favourite Thunder Legend was flattered when third over course and distance on his penultimate start, as he raced on the favoured rail and has since been beaten from a good draw at Chester. He wears first-time headgear today.
9-2 poke Skittlebombz has won just once from nine starts (on Tapeta) and now wears first-time headgear.
5-1 chance Beluga Gold was flattered from a favourable low draw when second at Hamilton on his penultimate start and was only sixth at York next time.
7-1 shot Liamarty Dreams was flattered from his rail position when runner-up in the same course and distance race as Thunder Legend and has since finished unplaced at Sandown.
Monsieur Jumbo has possibilities now back in trip but could use some rain, so the vote goes to ESPRESSOO. She struggled to see out the straight mile in the Sandringham Stakes at Royal Ascot last time and is best judged on 7f figures of 112 (2-3), with the defeat by a head to Sandringham winner Heredia at York.
TWINING – 8.50 Epsom (1pt each-way – 10/1 generally
It paid to race up with the pace in the 1m2f Class 6 Handicap at Chelmsford on May 14th and TWINING deserves an upgrade for her 20-1 fourth. Wearing cheekpieces for the first time, Jim Boyle’s three-year-old got little cover from her wide draw but kept on well from mid-division to finish just over five lengths behind winner Circle Time, who made most of the running.
Foshan, beaten by just over seven lengths in seventh place when also ridden patiently, went down narrowly at Yarmouth next time (10-1) and eighth-placed Festival Of Light, another who came from off the pace, was also placed at 10-1 on her next outing.
Twining was pulled out of her next intended outing at Windsor because of fast ground and, while the ground is usually well-watered at Epsom, any rain (showers are forecast), will enhance this daughter of Fast Company’s prospects. The step up to 1m4f seems likely to suit.
