TORRENT DES MOTTES has form figures at Huntingdon in the month of March of 11515 (3-5) and, though only fifth when I recommended him last week, he was weak in the betting and actually clocked a good time despite finishing about 18 lengths behind the winner. It’s possible that today’s race was the plan all along and he’s worth a small interest.

ARBENNIG – (CHEPSTOW 4.05, 1pt win – 12/1)
ARBENNIG ran a sound race on his debut in November 2020, finishing third to Libberty Hunter and Sherborne in a bumper at Hereford having undergone wind surgery a couple of months earlier. The winner returned from more than a year off to score at Chepstow in December and was subsequently sold for £160,000 before a solid 22-1 sixth in a Listed bumper at Newbury on his debut for Evan Williams.
The runner-up landed a novices’ hurdle at Lingfield last November and is now rated 112 and the fourth home, Flying Nun, has won her last two starts. Arbenig hasn’t progressed in three runs this term but has had another wind operation since we last saw him and might do better now switched to fences off a mark of just 89. Trainer Jamie Sowden does well when pitching his young/inexperienced chasers into handicap company – those aged six or younger who were making their chase debut or only had one previous run over fences have a 21 from 79 record for a profit of £41.16 to a £1 level stake at SP.
