Andrew Mount's Best Bets - Thursday, May 27

Top tipster Andrew Mount has four selections for Thursday’s racing

SAMEEM – (3.35 Ripon, 1pt win – 18/1)

Pace angle SAMEEM might be able to lead from start to finish. He beat only one home at York last time but that was his first run since last August and first for Tim Easterby. His four wins for James Tate came in small fields – his full record in single-figure line-ups reads 1173211546 (4-10) – and he has plenty of form at this track.

HIs yard has a good record in handicaps with second-time switchers, with those who made the running winning four of their 11 starts for a profit of £49.00 to a £1 level stake at SP.

PACOPASH – (3.55 Haydock, 1pt each-way – 25/1)

PACOPASH was only seventh of eight in a Class 2 handicap at Chester last time but that was her first run for several months and she was drawn widest of all. She ran a storming race at Chester on her second start last term, finishing a 100-1 fourth behind runners who were rated 94, 91 and 81 at their peaks.

She’s been dropped 8lb for that comeback effort and looks very interesting in this Class 5 contest. Trainer Michael Mullineaux has his string in good form and she looks overpriced.

GIN PALACE – (8.00 Sandown, 1pt win – 9/1)

GIN PALACE seemed to resent patient tactics at Ascot last month, taking a keen hold as a result, and his modest fifth can be ignored. It’s also possible that the run – his second of the season – was still needed and we’re now in the peak Gin Palace period.

HIs record from May to August reads 1841131102 (5-10), with the runner-up effort coming by a neck in a field of 15 over trip and track last year when the only one in the first eight home to race up with the pace.

ECHO BEACH – (8.30 Sandown, 1pt win – 12/1)

Hugo Palmer has a solid record with his newly- gelded runners, scoring with 15 of the 96 qualifiers (15.6% strike-rate) for a profit of £9.32 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those running in headgear are nine from 47 (19.2%, +£31.45) and the cheekpieced ECHO BEACH looks a likely improver for his in-form yard.
