Tim Easterby was in good form here yesterday and he has a strong hand in this 5f handicap with COPPER NIGHT and COUNT D’ORSAY. The 11-4 favourite Jabbarockie did us a favour at Musselburgh last time but he’s 0-7 immediately following a win and, at the prices, I’ll take him on. Copper Night was seventh in that same Musselburgh race but sat further off the pace than ideal and wasn’t as well drawn as the winner. His course record at the May meeting reads 112 (2-3) and he’s well berthed in stall 3.

COUNT D’ORSAY – (1.45 Chester, 1pt each-way – 10/1)
Count D’Orsay also ran in the Musselburgh Sprint Cup, beating only a couple home under a patient ride from a poor low draw. He’s yet to race here but has only raced left-handed twice in his career, winning and finishing second by a head (both at Catterick). HIs record on good to soft or soft going stands at 112112 (4-6). I did consider the possibility that he’s an autumn horse – his best form has come in September/October – but he’s probably just more likely to encounter his preferred ground conditions at that time of year.

CRIMEWAVE – (3.45 Chester, 1pt each-way – 14/1)
CRIMEWAVE is 0-9 on turf but has made the frame in five of his last six outings and has rarely encountered the big field/strong pace scenario he needs. Eight of his nine turf runs have come over 1m or less, yet he’s improved on the all-weather since stepped up to 1m2f and may be able to translate that improvement back to grass. HIs sole turf run over today’s trip saw him finish a highly-respectable 33-1 fifth in a Newmarket maiden, doing best of those ridden patiently.
