There’s no denying that GRAND ENTERPRISE hasn’t won as often as he should – twice from 43 hurdle starts – but he’s finishing second on both previous visits to Carlisle, off marks of 101 and 85, and run off just 70 today.
The veteran was a big eyecatcher at Market Rasen last time, keeping on into second after racing on the slowest part of the track (the inside rail). The time was quick and he’s worth an each-way interest.

HOOVES LIKE JAGGER – (4.30 Brighton, 1pt each-way – 4/1)
Frontrunners had a fantastic time of things at Brighton’s meeting on September 13th, where the winners were described as ‘close up’, ‘made all’, ‘made all’, ‘made all’, ‘disputed lead’, ‘tracked leader’ and ‘chased leader’.
HOOVES LIKE JAGGER, sent off as the 4-9 favourite for the 1m4f handicap that day, finished almost four lengths back in second but his patient running style was at a huge disadvantage and the run is easily forgiven. The bigger field and likely stronger pace will suit and the market may have overreacted to his last run.

ANDRE AMAR – (5.40 Brighton, 1pt each-way – 11/1)
ANDRE AMAR caught the eye when second by a neck at Bath on his penultimate start, doing well to finish so close under patient tactics on a day that frontrunners enjoyed a massive edge.
He was only fifth of nine at Chepstow next time but blew the start and actually did best of those who came from off the pace. The two other runners who attempted to come from well back that day finished seventh and eighth and improved their RPRs (Racing Post Ratings) by 23lb and 36lb on their next starts.
The drop back to an extended 5f will suit and, though I’d have preferred a bigger field, that should be enough early pace to set things up for him.

AL BAAHY – (6.30 Chelmsford, 1pt win – 7/2)
AL BAAHY went close when I recommended him at Leicester last time, going down by three-quarters of a length in second after being heavily supported from 14-1 into 7-1.
He was given a shocking ride at the same venue on his penultimate start – his jockey took him straight the stands’ rail where the ground was slowest – and it will be interesting to see if he makes the running, having been ken under restraint last time.
He switch to Polytrack shouldn’t pose a problem and I’m surprised to see him forecast as the 7-2 third favourite.

MONTATHER – (8.00 Chelmsford, 1.5pts win – 7.2)
MONTATHER finished well beaten in the Cambridgeshire but the straight 1m1f at Newmarket wouldn’t have suited and he’s much better judged on his turning-track figures of 11156 (3-5), improving to 111 (3-3) at tonight’s 1m trip.
He’s well drawn in stall 2 and looks set to encounter a decent gallop, courtesy of Animal Instinct (possibly best at 7f) and the first-time blinkers Laos.
