Andrew Mount's Best Bets - Thursday, September 23

Top tipster Andrew Mount has bets in three sprint handicaps at Newmarket and Pontefract on Thursday. Check out his selections below, which are all backable via this bet365 offer, which provides new customers with up to £100 in bet credits.

LOVELY BREEZE – (2.10 Newmarket, 2pts win – 4/1)

LOVELY BREEZE was an eyecatcher on Newmarket’s July Course three runs back, doing best of the closers in second on a day that frontrunners enjoyed a huge edge.

She won well at Glorious Goodwood next time and though only sixth at Pontefract on her latest outing, that was a Listed race and she was poorly drawn in stall 8 of 12 (once adjusted for the non-runners). The other badly drawn runners have franked the form, notably Dandalla who was fifth from stall 9 before winning a Listed race at Ayr (13-2) and seventh-placed Chocoya (stall 12), a stablemate of Lovely Breeze who has since won at Salisbury (8-1) and Chelmsford (11-8f).

The third (stall 11) and tenth (stall 10) both went well in Group 3/Listed company next time, finishing fifth and a close-up fourth of 15. Lovely Breeze remains open to improvement as a sprinter and can bounce back here. The fly in the ointment is Mick Appelby’s Restless Endeavour. Her trainer does well with new acquisitions and I’ve had a small saver.

BALLINTOY HARBOUR – (4.05 Pontefract, 1.5pts win – 11/2)

I was confident that BALLINTOY HARBOUR would win at Redcar on June 1st but he could only finish third of the seven runners, despite starting as favourite. He bounced back to score at Newmarket the following month and it looks as though he simply needs a track with a stiff uphill finish.

Since that Newmarket wins he’s finished unplaced in three starts – all on easy tracks (Doncaster, York and Thirsk). His full record on stiff tracks stands at 111 (3-3), including a course and distance success last August and he’s handily drawn in stall 4.

YOUNG TIGER – (5.15 Pontefract, 1pt win – 11/2)

There are a couple of horses near the head of the betting, both admittedly well drawn, that I wasn’t to oppose. Jorvik Prince (stall 1) tends to thrive in the depths of winter (he’s 0-36 when racing in the March to October period) and Fibresand expert Gorgeous General (stall 2) is 0-12 on turf.

More interesting is YOUNG TIGER, who tends to come good in the later months of the season. He’s 0-15 from January to June but is 7-39 from July onwards for a profit of £27.17 to a £1 level stake at SP. He was only eighth of the 12 runners at Doncaster on his latest outing but still clocked a fast time. A bigger field would have been preferable but there should be plenty of pace on in this apprentice handicap.
