MAISON BEAU – (5.30 Chelmsford, 1pt win, 25/1)
It is usually an advantage to be drawn low at Chelmsford and MAISON BEAU (stall 1 of 10) looks worth chancing on her all-weather debut. She was reportedly unsuited by the soft ground when a 22-1 sixth of eight at Chepstow on her handicap debut last time and her sire, Coach House, has a healthy 14% strike-rate with his progeny at this venue (eight winners from 57 runners, +£17.25).
Interestingly, Tony Carroll has only had 28 runners drawn in stall 1 at Chelmsford and eight won (expected winners = 3.86) for a profit of £36.30 to a £1 level stake at SP.

LADY FLORENCE – (5.35 Lingfield, 1pt win, 11/4)
Malcolm Saunders has his string in good form and LADY FLORENCE looks interesting back from a break. She’s only had three runs when fresh (after a break of at least five weeks) since qualified for handicaps, finishing second by half a length at 50-1 on her 2020 reappearance, winning over course and distance after a 41-day break last summer and running eighth of nine here on this year’s comeback in March.
That run wasn’t as bad as it looked – she was drawn very wide on a day that the low draws enjoyed a big advantage (the first four home came from stalls 1, 4, 2 and 3).

Three-year-olds have won five of the six runnings of this race (from 35 runners) and older horses are just one from 36. LAFAN improved for being gelded ahead of his latest start, scoring snugly over course and distance. Ridden patiently from his high draw that day, he was stopped in his run approaching the furlong pole and won with more in hand than the half-length margin suggested.
The yard’s runners do well on their second start after gelding, with those who made the top six last time out winning 18 of their 74 starts (expected winners = 10.28) since the beginning of 2018 for a profit of £39.70. Those who won last time out had a five from ten record (+£3.12).
