Andrew Mount's Best Bets - Tuesday 13th September

Top tipster Andrew Mount turns his attentions to Tuesday’s cards.

Published: 5pm – 12th September (Odds correct at time of posting, where available)

WAR TREATY – Redcar 2.53 – 1pt win 18/1 Paddy Power/Betfair, 16/1 generally)

WAR TREATY caught the eye when an 18-1 last of six in a Hamilton maiden in July. He raced on the slowest part of the track yet was only beaten by three lengths under tender handling. He was stepped up to 7f at Carlisle for his nursery debut next time where he finished a creditable fourth after making the running, once again on what was probably the slowest part of the track. He has the best of the draw in stall 1 of 9 today (whereas favourite Hello Deira has the worst of it in stall 9) and he could prove hard to pass.

ROMANTIC TIME – Yarmouth 4.30 – 2pts win (16/1 Bet365, 14/1 Will Hill)

ROMANTIC TIME failed to settle and did too much too soon when beating only one home in the Shergar Cup Sprint last time and looks very interesting with Hollie Doyle back on board from what looks a handy draw in stall 7 of 8. Bill Stone’s filly was a heavy-ground Sandown nursery winner the only time she encountered ground softer than good and was a shock Group 3 winner under Doyle at Salisbury at this time last year. She was a big eyecatcher when fourth at Newmarket back in May, doing best of those to race on the front end in the 6f Class 2 handicap won by Harry Three, who is now rated 18lb higher. The other prominent racers who finished within 15 lengths of the winner in that Newmarket contest have done well since – fifth place Auditor won two of his next three and is now rated 6lb higher, eighth placed Haymaker has won since and is 9lb higher and I’m A Gambler, ninth of ten, has won four times since including off 106 at Leopardstown last Saturday. Romantic Time on the other and is now 6lb lower and could be hard to catch here. She’s going to appreciate having a rail to her immediate right, as she has hung right on occasions and two of her three wins come from a rail draw (1 of 12 at Salisbury and 14 of 14 here at Yarmouth).

HAN SOLO BERGER – Yarmouth 5.03 – 1pt win (8/1 generally)

I’ve had various theories about HAN SOLO BERGER over the years – mostly concerned with small fields – but it’s possible that this Newmarket-based veteran is simply a bad traveller who performs best at his local tracks – Newmarket and Yarmouth. He has won twice in Scotland but probably travelled up the night before, so didn’t have far to go on the day of the race. He’s won four from 18 at his local turf tracks for a profit of £10.13 and his record here or at Yarmouth over 5f and after a recent outing (within three weeks) stands at 2111236297104 (4-13) for a profit of £15.13. He caught the eye when fourth at Newmarket last time as he raced prominently in a 5f handicap run to suit the closers, doing best of those who were up with the early pace. His four runs at Yarmouth have produced two wins and a head second (he reportedly lost both front shoes when well beaten in the other) and he’s worth a punt in what could be a good draw in stall 8 of 11. Hollie Doyle will presumably switch him off towards the nearside and get a good tow into the race from Grandfather Tom (stall 11) and The Defiant (stall 6).
