AYR 2.54 – ZIP (0.5pt each-way – 12-1 bet365, 11-1 generally, though Sky Bet’s four places at 10-1 is probably best)
Three-year-olds are 0-15 in three four previous runnings of this race and it could pay to take on the classic generation with Richard Fahey’s ZIP, who is 8lb lower in the handicap than when third in this race last year. He’s won six of his 30 starts in 7f handicaps (+£18.08 to a £1 level stake at SP) and has finished in the first four in 16 of them. He also tends to run best in the autumn, especially when there’s plenty of cut in the ground, and today’s likely strong gallop will suit.
AYR 5.10 – SATANIC MOON (1pt win – 7-2 generally)
The Johnston yard is pretty hopeless with first-time blinkered runners, scoring with just five of the 141 qualifiers since the beginning of 2015 for a huge loss of £119.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. The expected number of winners based on their prices was almost 15. SATANIC MOON trailed home in tenth place in the first-time blinkers when 3-1 favourite at Thirsk last time has been freshened up since and the headgear has been left off today. He has form when fresh and backing the yard’s runner who wore first-time blinkers on their latest start but no headgear of any form today, would have returned a profit of £128.50 to a £1 stake in the same period.
