For a horse whose only win from 15 starts came when scraping home by a nose in a 7f Chelmsford maiden, the Ian Williams-trained Buxted Too looks plenty short enough at 11-8 in this 1m3.5f handicap.
I prefer the claims of pace angle CONTINGENCY FEE, who will have the wind behind him in the straight. He was well beaten in a 1m4f Wolverhampton handicap in December when we last saw him but it’s hard to make the running over that course and distance and he’s a better horse on turf, winning seven of his 24 starts for a profit of £23.83 to a £1 level stake at SP.
When running in fields of 11 or fewer runners, on good or quicker going and in Class 5 or lower company, those figures improve to seven from 17 (+£30.83). His last five runs under these conditions have yielded form figures of 11112 (4-5) and, though the lack of a recent run is a slight worry, he’s still worth a bet.

ENFRANCHISE has run some huge races against the bias at Lingfield this winter and again took the mug route round the inside when beaten by less than two lengths into sixth on her return from a short break last time. Her sole start on fast turf saw her land a Pontefract maiden last autumn and she could be in receipt of an easy lead here.

When I first looked at this race on Monday morning, I had expected to tip Albegone, who is going to improve for his comeback effort from a poor wide draw at Pontefract. However, odd though it may seem, stall 6 of 6 could be a disadvantage on yesterday’s evidence.
The Ayr sprint winners all challenged far side from low draws and even in this small field the draw could play a crucial role. More interesting, despite being a shorter price, is ROSE BANDIT, who clocked a fast time according to Proform’s speed figures when successful from a poor low draw at Musselburgh last time.
That wide draw might actually have helped her, as she seems happiest when getting plenty of daylight in her races. She’s on the wing in stall 1 of 6 and drops back in grade from Class 5 to Class 4 level tonight.
