Andrew Mount's Best Bets - Tuesday, March 15

Top tipster Andrew Mount continued his good form when INTERNE DE SIVOLA (2pts win at 15-8) won at Stratford on Monday and he has eight bets across four races on Day One of the Cheltenham festival. Check out his selections below, plus a Bet £10 – Get £40 Sign-Up Bonus at LiveScore Bet, just in time for the Cheltenham Festival and get refunded when beaten by a head or less at the Festival too!

MAGIC DAZE – (Cheltenham 2.10 – 1pt win, 14/1)

I’ve fired off a couple of arrows at outsiders in the Arkle in what looks an open year. MAGIC DAZE was beaten by Concertista at Cork last time but it’s likely that Denis O’Regan got the fractions wrong on the 10-11 favourite. That race was run to suit the closers, with the winner, runner-up, fourth and fifth coming from off the pace. She’s best judged on her earlier pacesetting win over the same course and distance and six-year-olds, especially front-runners, have done well in recent years. She ran second in the Dawn Run at last year’s festival and looks over-priced.

RED ROOKIE – (Cheltenham 2.10 – 0.5pt each-way, 100/1) (firms paying four places, e.g. bet365, Sky Bet, William Hill)

I thought RED ROOKIE would go well in the Grand Annual but connections have opted for this race instead and he’s worth a small interest. He was a massive eyecatcher in Witness Protection’s race at Chepstow in early November, finishing second by a neck despite his come-from-behind style being at a huge disadvantage. That race worked out extremely well and he wasn’t beaten when falling at Ascot next time. He bounced back with a win at Hereford, one of the worst tracks in the country for patient tactics, and he also showed a tendency to go out to his left. He probably lacks the necessary class for this race but it’s going to be run at a fierce gallop and, if he stays out of trouble, he could make the first three or four.

TEA CLIPPER – (Cheltenham 2.50 – 1pt each-way, 14-1 generally)

TEA CLIPPER trailed home over 42 lengths behind Bravemansgame in the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase but the 10-1 shot hated the rain-softened ground and is likely to do much better here. After he made a winning chase debut in Listed company at Chepstow in October, Tom Lacey said "he’s a good-ground horse so there’s no point trying to campaign him in mid-winter". Since then, he’s finished last of the finishers in both runs, taking his record from November to February to 1125524 (2-7), as compared to 11331 (3-5) from March to October.

He needed to run in those winter races in order to be eligible for today’s race and, not only did he gain up valuable chase experience, he picked up £20k in prize money. He placed ran at 33-1 in the Coral Cup last term before another placed effort at the Aintree festival and it’s interesting to see the cheekpieces go on, as his trainer is seven from 14 with this headgear in the past two years. He’s also had wind surgery since Kempton and can give the novices another win in this race. Just for the record, I’ve had a small saver on 100-1 shot ONE MORE FLEURIE, who also seems best in the spring.

MARTELLO SKY – (Cheltenham 4.10 – 0.5pt each-way, 18-1 generally, Sky Bet five places)

MARTELLO SKY has form figures of 118111 (5-6) when racing over hurdles against her own sex, with the sole defeat in the Dawn Run at last year’s festival. That 14-length 33-1 eighth of 15 was a cracking effort, as she jumped abysmally and dropped to the rear, before staying on again over the inadequate 2m1f trip.

INDEFATIGABLE – (Cheltenham 4.10 – 0.5pt each-way, 25-1 generally, Sky Bet five places)

INDEFATIGABLE loves Cheltenham and has run crackers in her three previous festival outings, doing best of the Brits when a 33-1 fifth of 22 in the 2019 Dawn Run, winning the 2020 Martin Pipe and running fourth at 33-1 in this race last term when second best of the British-trained runners. She disappointed at Warwick last time but has often bounced back from a poor effort on her next outing.

ECHOES IN RAIN – (Cheltenham 4.10 – 0.5pt each-way, 9-1 generally, Sky Bet five places)

ECHOES IN RAIN has never raced in mares’ only company before and should improve for it. She’ll appreciate the likely strong gallop and it’s worth taking a chance on her stamina.

TOO FRIENDLY – (4.50 Cheltenham – 1pt each-way, 22-1 William Hill, five places, 20-1 bet365, six places)

There are two types of Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle winner – those who won a low-grade (Class 4) contest last time out and those who finished fourth or worse in their prep run, usually in a Graded race. Horses who ran second or third in Britain/Ireland have a 0-143 record. A patient running style is usually a big positive and simply backing those described as ‘held up’ last time out would have shown a profit.

TOO FRIENDLY raced keenly in the rear when fourth to Knight Salute in Grade 2 company at Doncaster last time and six of Dan Skelton’s nine runners in this race have finished in the first six (most bookmakers are paying six places). He’s undergone wind surgery since Doncaster and his yard’s four previous wind op recipients who ran at the festival included a 12-1 winner and 25-1 fourth of 21 (this race in 2019).

HMS SEAHORSE – (4:50 Cheltenham – 1pt each-wa, 12/1)

HMS SEAHORSE went into my tracker after his Fairyhouse win last month where he raced in the ‘swamp’ on the inside. His earlier placed form behind The Tide Turns and Pied Piper reads well and there should be plenty of improvement to come on his handicap debut.
