FOREVER DES LONG – (1.00 Market Rasen, 1pt win, 8/1)
There’s plenty of early pace in this 2m2.5f conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle and the race could be set up for a closer. FOREVER DES LONG is a 12-race maiden but his best efforts have come at this time of year and he might have needed his first three runs this term.
In his first season of racing (2019/2020) he ran Night Edition (runner-up in the Fred Winter) close in a field of 16 at Ludlow on his fourth outing and, last season, his fourth start produced a three-quarters of a length second at Fontwell. His jockey, Jack Martin, claims 10lb but is two from 12 (+£13.25) in handicap hurdles this year (prior to the finale at Wincanton on Monday) and might just be able to get a tune out of him.

Victor Thompson winners are less frequent than Halley’s Comet but his horses are running well (the last two have placed at 50-1 and 40-1) and DE MAZZARO could also out-tun his odds now back with his old handler.
I was going to say ‘shame there’s only seven runners otherwise I’d have bet him each-way’ but both William Hill and Coral are offering three places for each-way bets.
