I struggled to find a selection when sitting down to write this column yesterday afternoon but, after sleeping on it, I’ve decided to risk a small bet on CRAZY LUCK in this 6f handicap. The overnight drift from 18-1 to 40-1 was a persuasive factor and, like yesterday’s pick Tricolore, she’s from the sire Twilight Son, whose progeny are doing really well as three-year-olds. Crazy Luck did well last year, showing promise in fourth on her debut at Windsor in July and getting off the mark over 7f at Salisbury the following month. She subsequently placed twice over 6f on turf before a couple of disappointing efforts at Kempton – failing to see out the one-mile trip and then finishing last of eight in a 6f nursery. She’s had another winter to strengthen and grow and, though drawn wide in stall 10, 6f figures for Twilight Son progeny of 7-17 this year suggest offers of 33-1+ are an over-reaction. She ran quicker than any of her rivals as a two-year-old according to Raceform and though a couple of them have predictably improved their figures as three-year-olds, there’s no reason that she can’t do the same.
