Andrew Mount's Best Bets - Tuesday, May 18

Top tipster Andrew Mount was on target with 10-1 Leicester winner Bit Of A Quirke on Monday (his other tip rewarded each-way support after trading at odds-on in running) and he has four bets on Tuesday. Check out his selections below, which are all backable via the Tote, and their exclusive sign up offer which provides £10 in free bets.

ROBERT GUISCARD (2.00 Sligo, 1pt win, 0.5pt place 20/1)

I wasn’t expecting to have two bets in a Sligo claimer today but there are solid cases to be made for both ROBERT GUISCARD and Brother In Law. The former hasn’t shown a huge amount in two starts in this grade since joining James McAuley from Mark Johnston but he’s well drawn in stall 1 on his return to sprinting and he has the early speed to take advantage of it.

He was a big eyecatcher for his old yard at Yarmouth last July, finishing second despite getting no cover from the strong wind, before going one better at Bath next time.

BROTHER IN LAW (2.00 Sligo, 1pt win 5/1)

The case for BROTHER IN LAW is simpler – he ran a stormer round the inside (where the surface was slowest) to finish a 16-1 second in a 6f handicap at Dundalk last week. He’s only had six runs to date and the drop in grade offers a good opportunity to get off the mark.

KARANNELLE (5.25 Huntingdon, 1pt win 9/2)

An aggressive ride on good ground – the first time she’d encountered such a surface since undergoing wind surgery – brought about improvement from KARANNELLE at Newton Abbot last time where she finished second at 33-1.

Sean Bowen again takes the ride – he’s 14 from 78 (18%) when riding for David Rees in handicaps (+£23.50) – and that Newton Abbot run was backed up by the clock (the best last time out figure according to Raceform). She has jumped out to her right on occasions and it’s perfectly possible that the switch to this venue will bring about further improvement.

MAH MATE BOB (5.35 Hexham, 2pts win 5/1)

MAH MATE BOB could only finish a modest second here last time – he was booked for third until a late faller promoted him a place – but that run is easily excused, as he’d been off the track for 63 days. His record when returning from a break of more than two weeks now reads 76958442433654432 (0-17), as compared to 111 (4-4) after a very recent outing.

Those four wins came after breaks of seven, 12, 13 and nine days and he lines up here after a break of just ten days. Trip, track and ground are ideal, and he looks the sole pace in the race. Cheekpieces go on for the first time – his sire, Mahler, has a seven from 36 record in this headgear over fences (+£10.75) – and he could prove hard to pass this time.
