LORD GORGEOUS caught the eye from off the pace when beaten five lengths at 100-1 at Wolverhampton last November on his second start for David Evans. He went off at a lunatic gallop the next twice and, needless to say, didn’t last home, failing to beat a rival on each occasion.
I suggested at the time that the mission seemed to be to get him well handicapped before landing a punt, perhaps once he’d been gelded. He was gelded ahead of his latest outing at Salisbury but was very weak in the betting and raced keenly under restraint.
I’m hoping that we’ll see him ridden more prominently this time, ideally sitting in second place behind habitual frontrunner Fair And Square before pouncing late.

Held up towards the rear of midfield, he travelled well but was briefly denied a run approaching the furlong pole and had to be switched to challenge, keeping on well to finish best of the closers in third. That was his first start following wind surgery and there should be more to come today.
