3.30 Market Rasen – MIDNIGHT GINGER (1pt win – 9/2 bet365)
MIDNIGHT GINGER did this column a favour when scoring over an inadequate 2m on heavy ground at Chepstow at the end of January and she was far from disgraced when bidding to follow up over 2m3.5f at the same venue next time, coming home 14 lengths behind Thor De Cerisy (winner again since) in third. The daughter of Midnight Legend is bred to appreciate today’s 3m trip and it’s worth taking a chance on her stamina in a weak race. Flintara heads the betting but she’s yet to win away from Fontwell or Uttoxeter and she might need this after a wind operation.
3.50 Haydock – CONKWELL LEGEND (1pt win – 9/1 William Hill)
CONKWELL LEGEND, like most progeny of Midnight Legend, seems to thrive in the spring and his top four RPRs (Racing Post Ratings) have come between February and April. His full record in this period reads 3112F8 (2-6), with the latest defeat excusable as it came when 22-1 for a hot handicap hurdle just 13 days after his fall in handicap chase company at Exeter. He’s now failed to complete on his last two chase starts but there’s compensation in the price and the drop down from Class 2 to Class 3 level will suit – his full record in today’s grade or lower reads 33331U125 (2-9).
