LINGFIELD 2.20
TEQUILAMOCKINGBIRD – 1pt win (8/1 Paddy Power/Betfair, 15/2 Sky Bet)

LUDLOW 1.45
ALLAVINA – 1pt win (9/1 Bet365, 17/2 generally)

ALLAVINA is a big price for a mare who is three from five over hurdles and she’s worth a small bet on her debut for Clive Boultbee-Brooks, who has a seven from 26 record (27% strike-rate) with his runners under Rules for a profit of £18.17. The yard had their first hurdles winner at Lingfield on November 24th and Allavina is 21101 (3-5) in this sphere, with the first defeat off level weights against the now 140-rated Martello Sky and the other when 40-1 for the Grade 2 Dawn Run at the Cheltenham festival. She didn’t to take to fences last season and her current mark of 127 could be on the generous side.

LINGFIELD 1.55
MOBASHR – 2pts win (4/1 generally)

I wrote the following piece about MOBASHR in the Racing Post Weekender after his 22-1 sixth at Haydock for Marco Botti on July 1st this year…

‘High draws had the best of things in the 6f Betfred Supports Jack Berry House at Haydock last Friday, with 7-4 favourite Hyperfocus (stall 10 of 10, once adjusted for non-runners) making all down the stands’ side from runners drawn 9, 7, 8 and 6. Marco Botti’s Mobashr (stall 4) ducked out to his left at the start, giving a bump to one of his rivals, and was soon switched left, well away from the pace horses. Two out, it looked as though he might be involved at the finish, but he could never get on terms at the stands’ side group, coming home nine lengths behind the winner in sixth place. The four-year-old’s three previous wins have all come over 1m – two on Lingfield’s Polytrack and the other one good to firm ground at Windsor – and connections now are likely to give up on sprinting. He’ll likely be dropped a couple of pounds for this and will be well handicapped when returned to a longer trip, ideally on Polytrack.’

Not only is he back over a longer trip (7f) on Polytrack today but he’s joined Mick Appleby who has a fantastic record at this first time of asking with horses he takes over from other yards, especially those owned by the Horses Watchers (16 winners from 43 runners for a profit of £62.49). Stall 2 is lower than ideal but he was strong in the early betting and it will be disappointing if he doesn’t go close at least.

HAYDOCK 3.07

HAYDOCK 3.07
CHAMBARD – 1.5pts win (4/1 Bet365, 11/4 generally)

Venetia Williams complicates matters by running two ten-year-olds in this veterans’ handicap chase – Coo Star Sivola, who makes his debut for the yard, and CHAMBARD, but I have to go with the last-named, who was my pick for the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham festival last season. He sneaked into that race thanks to the 5lb penalty he picked up for winning at Huntingdon earlier in the month and his 40-1 victory took his record since undergoing wind surgery to 122111 (4-6), with the latest defeat by a head when given far too much to do. He scored with far more in hand than the two and a half-length winning margin suggests, and the 7lb rise is more than fair.
