NOTTINGHAM 1.30
PLATINUM PRINCE – 1pt win
(10/3 Generally)
Nottingham is going to be fun and games this afternoon because of the forecast strong headwind. The round course usually favours prominent racers but getting cover from the wind is going to be the key ingredient to success. We’ve got early pace in stalls 1, 4, 5 and 14 among others in the opening 1m2f apprentice handicap and the race could be set up perfectly for Gary Moore’s PLATINUM PRINCE. The five-year-old did well to win over 1m here in June (‘dwelt start, held up in rear’) under today’s rider Anna Gibson when the runner-up/third were up with the pace throughout and he followed up in another 1m apprentice handicap for the same jockey at Brighton. The pair were only third when taking on professional riders last time (5-6f) but they are going to be hard to beat back up in trip and returned to apprentice-only company.

NOTTINGHAM 4.55
MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO – 1pt win
(5/2 Generally)
MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO has improved since blinkered, recording form figures of 1113 (3-4), with the latest defeat by just half a length at 9-1 in a 7f Newmarket handicap. That was arguably the best of the four blinkered efforts, as the cut back in trip didn’t suit and patient style was not ideal for the track. He clocked a fast time for that run and Jamie Spencer is the ideal jockey to have on your side in a headwind situation. I’ve also done the Platinum Prince/Mount Kosiuszko each-way double.

KEMPTON 7.00
DIOCLES OF ROME – 1pt win
(15/2 Generally)
The Ralph Beckett-trained DIOCLES OF ROME was only fifth of eight over course and distance last time but that was 301 days ago, and the subsequent absence suggests that there were valid reasons for the defeat. The seven-year-olds other Kempton runs have yielded form figures of 2112721 (3-7), with the runner-up efforts by a head, a neck and half a length. Hector Crouch is 1-1 on him here, he looks well drawn in the middle and he can defy the absence.
