JORDAN ELECTRICS – Catterick 2.30 (1pt win – 12/1 generally)

OSO RAPIDO – Catterick 2.30 (1pt win – 7/1 bet365, 11/2 generally)

The Ewan Whillans-trained JORDAN ELECTRICS was only ninth of 17 at Haydock last time but that was a strong draw bias race – the first seven home were berthed in single-figures with the 50-1 winner and 28-1 runner-up coming from stalls 2 and 1. He was second best of those draw high, losing out by just a neck on his side, and the yard was among the winners last week.

He was only just beaten in a £10k to the winner 20-runner York handicap last month and the last time he contested a race worth today’s sort of money he won by almost three lengths at Hamilton. He was ridden patiently last time but, with luck, will revert to the prominent tactics for that Hamilton success.

I also want to side with OSO RAPIDO, another who should be on the pace throughout. He’s in my track as one to support in the second half of the turf campaign, as prior to this season eight of his ten best RPRs (Racing Post Ratings) had come from mid-August onwards.

He popped up a little earlier than usual, scoring over course and distance on July 13th and can be forgiven his two subsequent defeats – he got into a battle for the early lead with subsequent York winner Bergerac when sixth in a Class 3 handicap at Newmarket and didn’t get home after racing prominently into the headwind over 7f in a Class 3 racing league handicap at Doncaster.

His record in Class 4 or lower company, from July until the end of the year, when returned to the track within six weeks of his latest outing, stands at 716314217141 (5-12) for a profit of £16.83, improving to 1631421141 (5-10) away from York.

ALSAMYAH – Lingfield 2.40 (0.5pt each-way – 33/1 Sky Bet, Paddy, Betway)

It might seem slightly bonkers to see promise in the last-time-out performance of ALSAMYAH, as Brett Johnson’s filly was beaten by 40 lengths into eighth place at Wolverhampton. However, that was her stable debut, and she was given a patient ride on a track that was massively favouring early pace.

The kickback was desperate, they were strung out like washing and the margins between each finisher read more like a jumps race rather than a 7f apprentice handicap (there was at least four lengths between each of the first five home). She also failed to get competitive over 7f at Wolverhampton on her final start for Ismail Mohammed, doing fourth best of the closers in eighth.

She finished a 14-1 third at Kempton on her most recent Polytrack outing and is 5lb lower this afternoon. The hood, missing for her latest run, is back on today, as is a first-time tongue-tie, which could also bring about some improvement and she’s worth a small interest.
