AMALFI SALSA – (Kempton 5.30, 1pt win – 4/1)
Early pace was the key ingredient in the 9.4f handicap won by Ghostly at Wolverhampton on July 14th last year, with the first three described as ‘close up, chased leader over 8f out’, ‘soon led’ and ‘chased leaders’. Marco Botti’s AMALFI SALSA fared best of the hold-up horses in fourth and, though winless in three runs since, her latest effort suggests her turn is near. Hooded for the first time in a 1m2f handicap at Lingfield last week, she pulled hard and challenged earlier than ideal before fading into sixth, just over one length behind the winner. She drops in trip to 1m and the booking of Tom Marquand is another positive.

NUBLE – (Kempton 6.30, 2pts win – 3/1)
NUBLE, a three-point pick prior to her 6-1 Lingfield win last week, looks to have been found another good opportunity. That latest win took her Polytrack figures to 3111 (3-4), with the sole defeat here at Kempton when finding the 1m trip too sharp. Tonight’s step up to 1m3f will suit.

GLOBAL ACCLAIM – (Kempton 7.30, 0.5pts win – 12/1)
There was a huge track bias at Southwell on January 24th, with those who challenged closest to the stands’ side rail enjoying the best of things. It was pretty obvious where you needed to be on the track by the time of the 1m Class 5 handicap but GLOBAL ACCLAIM, who had the best of the draw in stall 9 of 9, was taken to the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail by John Fahy.
Clive Cox’s four-year-old still managed to keep on well into fifth place, two and a half lengths behind the winner, leaving the firm impression that she would have been second at least had she raced on the ‘golden highway’ like the winner. The return to Polytrack won’t hurt – she’s a course winner – and she looks overpriced at the current odds, despite a slight concern about the recent draw 1 stats (hence the very small 0.5pt win stake).
I was also interested in MOUNT MOGAN after he won against the bias at Lingfield last time but he’s drawn wide over a new trip and is a shorter price.
