CLOUD THUNDER – (2.10 Lingfield, 1pt each-way – 15/2)
CLOUD THUNDER did well to finish a close second in the ‘swamp’ on the inside rail at Wolverhampton three runs back and his forcing style wasn’t effective at York next time where his 10-1 eighth of 11 was better than it looked.
General Zoff, best of the prominent racers on the Knavesmire, scored shortly afterwards and sixth-placed Sharp Suited, another who raced near the front end, would have been second at worst over hurdles next time had he not fallen late. Another trip to Wolverhampton wasn’t ideal for Cloud Thunder last time, though his 16-length third to Live Your Dream was achieved in a fast time and the winner defied a 10lb rise in a Class 2 Newmarket handicap next time.
Margaret Dumont, runner-up in that race, filled the same position in the Northumberland Vase on her next outing. Cloud Thunder has yet to win on the Flat but has twice placed on slow ground and could get the run of things in front today.

Her dam was beaten by a head at 20-1 on her sole all-weather outing (at Dundalk) and there should be plenty of improvement to come.

POET’S PARK – (8.15 Wolverhampton, 1pt win – 9/1)
POET’S PARK has the ideal breeding for Wolverhampton – her sire Poet’s Voice gets plenty of winners here, especially in the summer months – and she ran respectably on her sole course visit, finishing a 100-1 fifth in novice company on her third run for a handicap mark.
She ran as though the race were needed on her handicap/seasonal debut at Wetherby in April and took a step forward with a 22-1 fifth of 12 at Windsor last time. She remains open to plenty of improvement, especially on Tapeta, and looks overpriced today.
