Andrew Mount's Best Bets (Wednesday, July 27th)

Top tipster Andrew Mount, has four selections across the second day of the Glorious Goodwood festival. Check out his thoughts on his selections below, alongside a new customer offer from Matchbook, which is offering Money Back as a Free Bet up to £30 if your first bet loses.

Published: 5:27pm – 26th July (Odds correct at time of posting, where available)

Adjuvant – Goodwood 1.50 (1pt each-way – 18-1 bet365, 16-1 generally)

I’ve bet the two Charlie & Mark Johnston runners – Approachability and Luminous Light – to small stakes but my main play is ADJUVANT from the Michael Bell yard.

He’s a three-time winner in late June/July and improved for the step up to 1m4f at Newmarket last time, getting on top close home to score by a neck. He recorded a career-best RPR (Racing Post Rating) that day. The bigger field will help this sometimes-keen sort.

Chindit (without Baaeed) Goodwood 3:35pm – (1pt win – 17-2 bet365, 15-2 William Hill)

CHINDIT is better than ever at the age of four and matched his career best RPR when landing the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot last time. He was placed behind Baaeed in the Lockinge earlier this season and fourth to the ‘good thing’ in the Queen Anne.

I’m not expecting him to win but he handled this track well enough when an unlucky-in-running fourth in the Celebration Mile last August and he looks the value in the ‘betting without Baaeed’ market. Alcohol Free, favourite in that market, could race freely now back up from 6f to 1m and second favourite Order Of Australia’s frontrunning style is rarely helpful round here.

State Occasion – Goodwood 4.10 (1.5pt each-way – 6-1 Coral, BetVictor, though Sky Bets’s 11-2 four places is preferable if you have access to their prices)

STATE OCCASION is 0-7 on turf but found only the progressive Morgan Fairy (tipped in this column) too good at Newbury last time in a race that has produced the winner of this contest before. She’ll appreciate the likely strong gallop. She’s incredibly consistent recording form figures since her racecourse debut of 3213233142 (2-10).

The Attorney – Goodwood 5.20 (2pts win – 5-1 bet365, 4-1 generally)

There looks to be plenty of early pace in this race and it could be set up perfectly for THE ATTORNEY, who looks well drawn in stall 4. The Charles Hills-trained four-year-old was a big eyecatcher over course and distance last month, looking likely to score approaching the cutaway but getting worn down by The Turpinator who sneaked up his inside.

He carried 10-02 that day, so don’t be put off by top weight of 10-01 this time. He’s run well in both starts since that course outing, again finding one too good at Newcastle before a solid 18-1 fifth of 18 to Bless Him in the Bunbury Cup.

William Buick, who won on him at Leicester in July of last year, returns to the saddle for the colt’s fifth run of the current campaign – it might be coincidence, but he won fifth-time out in 2020 and again last season. Aside from seasonal debuts – which he always needs – his record stands at 5331431122225 (3-16) suggesting he’s going to be desperately difficult to kick out of the frame.
