Top tipster Andrew Mount went close with his Royal Ascot nap Arecibo on Tuesday and has four bets on Wednesday. Check out his thoughts below, with all selections backable via the Tote who currently have an offer in place which provides new customers with a £10 welcome offer.
EMERALDS PRIDE – (1.30 Hamilton, 3pt win 4/1)
EMERALDS PRIDE ran a storming race against the draw bias to finish third at Redcar on her recent debut and would be clear favourite in my tissue. The yard had a similar type win at Carlisle on Monday (Langholm) after being backed from 4-1 into 6-4 and I can see the same thing happening. A few of her rivals were flattered by their latest efforts when well drawn and she’s a strong bet for me today.

CHAMPERS ELYSEES – (3.40 Ascot, 1.5pt win 12/1)
CHAMPERS ELYSEES started as the 6-5 favourite for a Group 2 at the Curragh last time but could only finish fourth. However, there was an extremely strong pace bias at that meeting and her come-from-behind style was at a huge disadvantage. She also challenged closest to the stands’ side rail where the ground was slowest. The bigger field and quicker ground will suit – her record in fields of 12 or more runners since the start of last season reads 11114 (4-5), improving to 111 (3-3) on yielding or faster going.

DOUBLE OR BUBBLE – (3.40 Ascot, 1pt win 12/1)
I also want to side with the ultra-progressive DOUBLE OR BUBBLE who took her record to 2111 (3-4) when bolting up at Newmarket on her comeback in April. She’s yet to race beyond 7f but it shouldn’t be a problem on breeding and, given how much Chris Wall’s runners improve for their seasonal debuts, she could have plenty left in the locker. Fast ground suits.

MY OBERON – (4.20 Ascot, 1pt win 33/1)
This looks ripe for an upset. Current 13-8 favourite Love has been off the track for 300 days, 9-4 second favourite Lord North prefers it softer and is not sure to encounter the strong pace he needs and 100/30 third choice Armory has form figures in Group 1 company of 2324432 (0-7).
The last-named might be best positioned in a tactical affair – I did make him my pick for the race in the GG preview video – but at the prices I’m going to chance MY OBERON, who wears cheekpieces for the first time. William Haggas has a great record with this headgear on older horses (4yo+), scoring with 13 of the 58 qualifiers since 2010 (22.4% strike-rate) for a profit of £45.00 to a £1 level stake at SP.
Those winners include Addeybb, successful at this meeting in 2019. My Oberon wasn’t beaten far when third in a 1m1f Group 1 at Longchamp last time and has form figures over 1m+ since his racecourse debut of 122173 (2-6). He’s reportedly a stuffy sort who takes a lot of getting fit at home and, although it was his third run of the season, he could improve again for that French outing 17 days ago.
