Andrew Mount's Best Bets - Wednesday, June 23

Top tipster Andrew Mount heads to Salisbury, Bath and Kempton for four bets on Wednesday

CODIFY – (1.00 Salisbury, 1.5pts win – 3/1)

CODIFY’s dam Bayja had been responsible for seven juvenile winners (from just 20 runners) prior to the Clive Cox-trained colt making his debut in a 6f maiden at Newbury six weeks ago but the yard’s modest record with newcomers at that venue was a worry. The 10-1 shot ran a race full of promise, showing up prominently before running green, getting outpaced and coming home just under eight lengths behind the impressive winner Gisburn in third place.

His trainer has now saddled just two winning newcomers from 99 runners at Newbury and even multiple Group-race winner Kodi Bear was beaten there first time out. Five of Codify’s six half-siblings won as juveniles – the only one who didn’t raced just once – and he looks the type to take a big step forward on his second start today. I was initially worried about his stall 1 draw but, with the ground drying out, it’s unlikely to be a disadvantage (on very soft ground, they tend to come stands’ side in the straight, favouring those drawn high).

MYSTIFY ME – (5.50 Bath, 1ot win – 9/2)

MYSTIFY ME went into the tracker after her debut effort from a wide draw over 5f at Wolverhampton and ran too free when mid-division over an extra furlong at Redcar next time. She opened her account when dropped back to the minimum trip in a first-time hood here on her latest outing, clocking a good time despite still racing keenly.

The big field and likely faster pace of today’s contest should help her settle better.

NOISY NIGHT – (7.10 Kempton, 1pt each-way – 8/1)

NOISY NIGHT was way too keen to do himself justice on his debut at Nottingham and the 13-2 shot, who completely blew the start, beat only one home and attracted the attention of the stewards in the process.

We could back all Night Of Thunder 2yos and make a profit (42 from 218, 19% strike-rate, +£27.70 to a £1 level stake at SP) and it’s interesting to note that Roger Charlton’s only other inmate by this sire – Pocket Square – scored at the second time of asking after showing promise on his debut. The sire has a superior strike-rate with his juveniles on turf but the Kempton runners have recorded figures of 8515533531522030 (2-16) and I think he’s worth chancing.

ISABELLA SWAN – (7.20 Bath, 2pts win – 13/8)

ISABELLA SWAN took her record since blinkered to 111 (3-3) when successful at Goodwood last time and the daughter of Twilight Son can complete a four-timer. The first two wins came over course and distance and, though up 8lb for her latest success, she’s running faster every time according to Raceform.

She stands out on last-time out speed and she drops in grade to Class 4 level here. She’ll appreciate being tucked in just behind the likely strong pace and she’s worth a bet despite short odds.
