Top tipster Andrew Mount showed a profit of day one of the festival thanks to each-way returns with Tea Clipper, Echoes In Rain, Too Friendly and HMS Seahorse. He has six bets on day two.. Check out Andrew’s tips below, alongside a superb Paddy Power offer, which gives new customers a £10 Free Bet Thru The Card, When they bet on the Ballymore Novice Hurdle.
TORRENT DES MOTTES – (1.50 Huntingdon, 0.5pts each-way – 22/1)
Yes, it’s not Cheltenham but TORRENT DES MOTTES is worth an interest at a track he loves. The veteran’s three wins have come at Huntingdon in the month of March, including this race in 2020. He has run better than his finishing position suggests at Leicester and Southwell the last twice and he’s generously priced today.

DUSART – (2.10 Cheltenham, 1pt win – 25/1)(
DUSART signed off last season with a close-up third to Belfast Banter in the Grade 1 Top Novices’ Hurdle at the Aintree festival and Nicky Henderson’s seven-year-old made a wining chase debut/reappearance at Leicester in January, coming home five lengths clear of the only other finisher despite jumping repeatedly out to his left on the right-handed track.
Surprisingly, he was asked to race right-handed again at Exeter the following month, though with main market rival Pats Fancy a non-runner he was left with little to beat and was sent off at odds of 2-7, the same price he returned at Leicester. He lost ground by jumping out to his left again but outclassed his rivals and cruised home by 11 lengths. That took his career record to 1311 (3-4) and there will be plenty of improvement to come now that he races left-handed over fences for the first time.

MCFABULOUS – (2.50 Cheltenham, 0.5pts each-way – 16/1)
Paul Nicholls in the Coral Cup? Are you mad? Possibly, but he does have a respectable in this contest. He’s only had 12 runners start at 16-1 or shorter and those included one winner, four places and a pair who finished fifth/sixth (most bookies now pay 6+ places on this race). I’ve long felt that MCFABULOUS is best after he’s had a couple of runs…
First two runs each season: 17241324 (2-8)
Third or subsequent runs: 1111128 (5-7)
…both those defeats came in Grade 1 or Grade 2 company and I like the addition of first-time cheekpieces. Nicholls does well with this headgear on horses who finished fourth or worse last time out, scoring with 28 of the 12- qualifiers since 2010 for a profit of £35.17 to the usual £1 stake.

NUBE NEGRA – (3.30 Cheltenham, 1pt win without Shishkin – 8/1)
Bar a fall, I think that SHISHKIN will win in the Champion Chase, but the way to attack this race is in the ‘betting without the favourite’ market. I think Energumene (best right-handed) and Chacun Pour Soi (below par both runs outside Ireland) – the favourite and second favourite in this market – are vulnerable and I prefer to side with the home team.
NUBE NEGRA was a close second last year and looks set to run another good race. Freshness is the key, and his record for Dan Skelton when rested for at least ten weeks, as he is here, reads 18B1121 (4-7), with the eighth place (in the 18-runner Greatwood Hurdle in 2018) excusable as it came on his first start back following a wind operation.

FUNAMBULE SIVOLA 0 (3:30pm Cheltenham, 1pt win without Shishkin -16/1)
The other to side with is FUNAMBULE SIVOLA, whose record in chases over trips of about 2m reads 11211211 (6-8). The first defeat came on heavy ground and the other behind Shishkin in a Grade 1 at Aintree last spring. He gave the 1-8 favourite a fright that day. Trading at 3.25 in running from his Betfair SP of 28.0.

THYME WHITE – (4.50 Cheltenham, 1pt win – 12/1
THYME WHITE often fails to settle in small fields and even did so in a huge line-up when going down by just over nine lengths in last year’s County Hurdle (28-1). It looks like he’s going to be a better chaser than hurdler and he was a big eyecatcher at Wincanton on his first attempt over fences, finding only Amarillo Sky a length and a half too good despite racing with the choke out.
He ducked out to his left and unseated at right-handed Ascot next time but showed what he was capable of when scoring at Doncaster in late December, his only left-handed chase outing to date. Today’s set up – a big field on a left-handed track – will help and he looks over-priced.
